EGYPTIAN CULTURAL HERITAGE AROUND THE WORLD

The below studies were conducted on the most available and accessible data.

Mapping Egyptian Artefacts Around the World | Case Study 1

Map shows sum of No. of Artefacts. The marks are labelled by Museum Name and sum of No. of Artefacts. Details are shown for City and Country.

Results: More than 868,900 Ancient Egyptian artefacts are located worldwide. The majority of them are in the United Kingdom and the United States, followed by Europe. A fewer number of the artefacts were found in Canada, Australia and Russia.

Moving Forward!

Since the majority of Egyptian artefacts are found in the United Kingdom and the United States. The study continues to examine the British Museum which houses the majority of the United Kingdom’s artefacts, with more than 100,000 artefacts.

The British Museum | Egypt Collection Case Study 2

The dataset contained approximately 15,200 artefacts, representing about 15% of the artefacts found there. I focused on two major studies:..

  1. Materials and Techniques Development
  2. Information about Acquisition

Materials and Techniques Development Study

While studying the dataset, I created a visual depicting the use of various materials and techniques during multiple periods/dynasties. The outcomes were very insightful for me as an industrial designer. Although the number of techniques used during the East Greek, Archaic Greek dynasties was the highest, the frequency per each technique was noted higher during the 26th dynasty.  Other fascinating findings can be found in the material/technique visual observation.

Acquisition Study

Most of the acquisitions in the United Kingdom occurred through donations by the Egypt Exploration Fund (EEF) which was later renamed the Egypt Exploration Society (EES).

Purchasing artefacts reached its peak in 1886 and continued to happen till 2016.

The highest number of the artefact acquisition was undefined (found Null).
